gunn-truscinski duo

"gunn / truscinski duo 'ocean parkway' on three lobed a contender for album of the year?, no, a definite for album of the year, astonishing record!" lex panayi

"it is with the greatest excitement that three lobed recordings announces the release of ocean parkway, the second album from the gunn-truscinski duo. ocean parkway is a unique and masterful album, one that sees the duo building and expanding upon the already telepathic chemistry that they demonstrated on their debut, sand city. whereas their first album operated to help introduce listeners to what steve gunn and john truscinski had been working on in private for several years, ocean parkway demonstrates how the pair have continued to expand their collective craft while maintaining a clear and unified vision for their sound..." three lobed

"Quiet Evenings are back with a reissue of a tape that was previously released in a hand-numbered edition of 12 for the Foogmess festival in Asheville. two sprawling sides of minimal electronic bliss." hooker vision

"in celebration of Rotifer's 50th and Hooker Vision's 100th releases, the two labels have teamed up to offer a commemorative split lp between the labels' flagship bands, Seziki Tetrasheaf and Quiet Evenings.
the a side begins with Seziki's lost and found shuffle of mildewed grooves. hazy recollections. deep humidity. on the flip, Quiet Evenings cool things down a bit with a bubbling hymn to the ocean and her mysteries. lost in waves. floating."

josh st. denis

"from icy cold sweater weather ambience to cozy warm peace blankets of folk induced acoustica rainbow laced with some lush verb. this is a re-issue of an edition of six that josh handed out at a show we played together two years ago. my absolute favourite workings of his, an absolute honour here to give it a second life." maggot valley

"Cloud Valley is/was/will always be one of the great tape labels. run by Scott Johnson of Thoughts on Air, the label put out efforts of artists across the experimental spectrum. seemingly though, this release by Josh St. Denis seemed to have slipped through the cracks and I haven’t seen it uploaded on a blog out there yet. Josh showcases both sides of the guitar coin with ominous drone tracks and fabulous solo acoustic reveries drifting upwards out of a vast canadian canyon. great album here. cheers to what Cloud Valley was and it’s now continuing venture as Maggot Valley." broadcasts from poor farm

sunhiilow

"sunhiilow is telling stories about echoes and odd imaginations from the lost cultures, exploring landscapes of tribal pulse and mythic lullabies. the music reflects the brightness of life and the darkness of the consciousness... its vibrations are connected to the abyssal zone to the celestial sphere, even the silence is audible. together We are One." valérie magisson

"all sounds by Valérie Magisson. mastering help by Jani Hirvonen. recorded in Rennes, France, 2012."

former selves

"following a recent string of cassettes and dvds, california audio/video artist Paul Skomsvold delivers the goods with some of his finest work to date. meditative synth compositions for total relaxation and contemplation." hooker vision

"Many Moons is another example for Former Selves’s impressing comprehension of the correlation of our visual and aural senses. made with a technique called “video feedback”, the muffled, warm synth meanderings blend smoothly into the faintly psychedelic frames that are almost exclusively held in soothing pastel shades. truly mesmerizing." no fear of pop

aloonaluna

"gorgeous and damaged outsider pop from this former Florida noisemaker now residing in California. for the first Aloonaluna cassette, Lynn Fister offers us an intimate set of slowly enchanting dream pop lullabies in the southern gothic tradition." hooker vision

"Aloonaluna marries delicate singer-songwriter folk and pop with improvisatory elements. they have been compared to the freeform explorations of No-Neck Blues Band and the nebulous folk meanderings of Islaja. drawing from influences that range from folk, drone, krautrock, pop, and especially from the fonal records oeuvre, each member contributes a wide range of instruments. this includes harp, guitars, banjo, avian field recordings, percussion, organ, toy synth and distorted bass."

jüppala kääpiö

"most of us are living in an urban world, dominated by constant noise and contagious stress. our ears are conditioned by this aggressive environment and have often lost the ability to perceive another discreet world surrounding us. it might be hidden but also swarming, vivid and incredibly musical. we are all able to prick up our ears to some birds chattering together, the wind shaking leaves, toads singing serenades or old spirits telling us their immemorial adventures…since its creation in 2006, Jüppala Kääpiö has tried to substantiate what they were hearing and feeling from animals, plants or even minerals that they met in their living places in different countries and during travels in different continents.

“Animalia Corolla” is a record of feasts of spirits gathered from the whole world. their songs, dances and conversations about the synchronicity of their dreams have been transcribed in this album.

Jüppala Kääpiö is a Swiss and a Japanese duo. they settled in Brussels in Belgium in summer 2011 after staying in Switzerland , Canada, Mongolia and Japan. the life in multicultural/lingual situations naturally gave to their music a style which might be called cosmopolitan folklore music." omnimemento

the a. lords

"recorded over then summers between 2000 and 2010, this eponymous lp is the definitive work by The A. Lords, the duo consisting of Michael Tanner and Nicholas Palmer. a lovely five-track ep already appeared in 2006 on the now defunct Barl Fire imprint, and four tracks off that release also made it to this lp, some with new names. six new tracks have been added to fill out the album with more wonderful pastoral folk meanderings.

this is gorgeous music that practically breathes the outdoors, the sunshine, and the Dorset landscape in which it was recorded. a wide variety of acoustic instruments gives each track on the album a unique palette, with many opting for sweet drifting melodies accented with staccato glockenspiel or dulcimer notes, besides the more familiar guitar sound, but also gentle organ drones, bells, toy piano, and the ever-present natural background sounds. a perfect companion to a day in the sun, whether it’s in summer, or a day like we’re having now: a crisp and clear October morning where the sun’s warmth is all the more welcome. calm freefolk at its best." evening of light

creation VI | nemertis

"days flow like a brook waters glittering in the sunlight. dreams and remembrances get mixed with each other. morning looks like evening, and night invites to forests where sacral dance of the Nature takes place away from street lamps and strangers' eyes. getting warmed with sunlight, we come to a new era. here sand and stones lay beneath fallen conifers' needles. roots attract lightning bugs when trees lose their leaves and prepare to complete the main life cycle while their bare branches spreads under moonlight, rain and cold winds. distant thunder sounds like its own echo playing a melody by feathers of ruffled owls. lightnings turn to stares of angels coming down to Earth as whole World is quivering, pulsating and singing his everlasting song.

this split unites two works which are similar in discovering something new in drone ambient. two projects, Creation VI from Kiev, Ukraine and Nemertis from Minsk, Belarus, explore guitar sound as a tool for developing abstract sound canvases. these abstract constructions are usually based on minimalistic sound streams and textures whose interlacing forms massive soundscapes." dna production

ø+yn + gmc

"Popolus Aheno is the fruit of a long time collaboration between gmc and ø+yn (pronounced "omasin"), which marks the opening release for Pakapi records, a new Argentinian label, which will be focused on releasing/promoting South American artists." pakapi records

"ø+yn: the heart of band is based in Córdoba, Argentina. their experiments began five years ago, combining different kinds of musical methods: acoustic, electronic, improvised and composed on the editing process. a purple atmosphere is created by this mixture that reminds the sound of folk bands from the 60-s and 70-s.

gmc: artist from La Plata, Argentina. his solo project is based on the hard studio work, using extended techniques for the sound manipulation and composing, alternating between acoustic, electro-acoustic and electronic devices. he also was involved in the early formation of Vlubä" wehavenozen

smokey feather

spires that in the sunset rise

"Having once been a collaboration of up to five women all hailing from Decatur, Illinois, the music is now the more intimate expression of long time members Kathleen Baird and Taralie Peterson. The instrumentation remains varied and eclectic: harmonium, guitar, slide, banjo, bowed psaltery, cello, flute, autoharp, spike fiddle, mbira, etc. Toying with certain traditions but never fully embracing one, STITSR remains a truly unique vision of the personal and mystical and is not for the casual listener nad they shared bills with John Zorn, Espers, The Incredible String Band, Bert Jansch, Lichens, Paul Metzger, Charlambides, Pelt, MV/EE, Faun Fables, Six Organs of Admittance, Larkin Grimm, Arrington Dionyso, Melissa Nadler, Lucky Dragons, Jack Rose, Kawabata Makoto, Daniel Higgs, Samara Lubelski, P.G. Six, Mayor Daley, Josef Van Wissem, Evangelista, and others." hairy spider legs

"the reign of death is silent, dark and warm; there is no cold, nor fear; one needs to be close to death, closer to death than the living, who are so contradictory and lovers of betrayal" maría sabina

'those who have ears to hear will listen', said maria sabina -the whirling woman who looks inside. she was able to search in shadow and silence. a healer that taught to her listeners that 'the ignorant will never be able to chant like the wise'. while reading the teachings of such an extraordinary mexican woman -who dedicated her life to heal while chanting after eating sacred mushrooms- i can picture completely the world that maria sabina referred to in her chants. it is a world full of mysticism and mystery, like the one that kathleen baird and taralie peterson in 'ancient patience wills it again' transport us to. while listening, it is evident that they created music like the wise. their magic comes from a place full of sounds that whisper to the spirit; they can take you to the depth where for sure consciousness wanders in bliss. so fast and without realizing we fly fast to another reality, their reality. 'grandma' sounds like the gate of the reign of death, the song makes clear that indeed, we will travel light this time. once transported to this magical and unknown place it will be difficult to get out. every musical detail feels like being in a forest full of sacred plants to play with. like the sound of the spike feedle in the hands of kathleen with 'child of the snow', which provokes the need to cuddle up in the snow as we dont want to melt away. spires that in the sunset rise spread power, like in the magnetic song 'well tempered'; a power full of femenine energy and love (like the grandmother ayahuasca), while being hypnotized by the harmonium, we know this is real power to be devoured.

we music lovers who were waiting to these new sounds can't be more happy... the only way i found to thank patrick of laughing eye weeping eye, was to write with my bad english all my excitement about this record ... what a way to turn hairy spider legs into a real label!... palabras mayores*

hanetration

"Hanetration describes his music as “ambient soundscapes, field recordings, woozy atmospherics and glitchy sound collages, music for headphones” and I would pretty much go along with that, but I would also add that the ep is compellingly different, sonically inventive throughout and one of the most promising debuts out there in the ambient/experimental field at the moment.

Rex immediately grabs your attention with its frenzied babbling vocal layered with fluttering flute tones and a quirky beat underlying a mumbling voice buried in hazy delirium. Piano notes meander above a low static layer here and there before the rhythm picks up again to fade out on that fevered vocal line, a superb track! Alarm builds slowly with piano over dense layers of velvet drone into a mournful death march parade. with a melancholic air, Rufus includes some wonderfully bowed psaltery-like sounds which stretch out over a steampunk mechanical rhythm full of hiss and steam. Final track Wreck has a delightfully twisted vocal like a lost soul wailing in a fog shrouded limbo with a slow pulse beneath supported by an insistent pickup glitch." savaran music

panabrite

"Norm Chambers is not a household name to most people but for those who have been reveling in the monster that is Panabrite for the last few years, he is absolutely adored. Some will be quick to chalk Soft Terminal up as another 'synth record,' but that's just the surface dressing. There is something deeper and much more complex happening here. Vivid, liquid dreams are sculpted into intricate fantasy landscapes, each layer revealing what a wizard Chambers is.

The thing with Panabrite is that he has an innate ability to write richly textured, melodic compositions that have as much in common with vintage electronic library music as they do with minimal synth pop and 70s prog." digitalis

Sonic natural wonders created by Norman Chambers utilizing analog synthesis, vintage drum machines, various effects and occasional guitar. Inspired by science fiction, new age music, soundtracks and library production music, nature/science documentaries, and vintage electronic sounds...an exciting record replete with underwater tunes. The outer space & the deep blue sea collide into two sides of spellbinding adventures reminiscent to the early work of Oneohtrix Point Never, Jürgen Müller and Dolphins Into The Future.

Panabrite works in the hazy, analog-synth-laden zone between kosmische drift and new age waft. He launches beatless symphonies of fibrillating, smeared whorls and drones that make you feel like the star of a weird nature documentary or a sci-fi blockbuster from 1977. Chambers excels at evoking both the intimate and the epic with his scrupulously wrought arpeggios and ostinatos." aguirre

lex panayi / red river dialect

"always wonderful to hear from you. apologies for the silence, I like to hide :) I have attached something for you, finished this evening and free to share with ana, mar and anyone else. I hope it does not disappoint you." lex

"David, Jack, Ed, Simon & Hugh have recorded an album, but not got the ££ to make cd's & lp's, so we are hoping to garner some orders here to get it out." red river dialect

plinth

"Plinth create strange and wondrous music using a collection of calliopes and Victorian music boxes, antique sound makers and wheezing creaking mechanisms from way back when.
and dulcet they are, haunting and mysterious, chiming melodies are laid over the whir of strange machines, it's almost like the soundtrack to some strange mechanical workshop where all the sounds are created via gears, and automatons, a Rube Goldberg like world of contraptions that create melodies, unfurling whirring textures, and the clicking and creaking of clockwork music boxes, the sound of the machines as much a part of the recordings as the music the machines are making. Dreamy and otherworldly, every song here like some old timey lullaby, broadcast via wireless from another dimensions, the sound of faded memories and lost childhoods, soundtracks to dreams and visions of what once was, bells and chimes, tinkling melodies, all wreathed in static and crackle, as if captured directly off the Victrola, or straight out of the music box, recorded onto a wax cylinder and played back by candlelight in the parlor. So lovely." aquarius

caligine | tulasi | 余益裔

"Tulasi is a Finnish duo, who are also known for their solo projects Kulkija and Kutomo as well as being involved in various free folk collectives. Their side consists of meditative drone-folk tracks, organ sounds and flute melodies creating tranquil spheres, at times more free-flowing, sometimes rhythmic. The other side of the tape is Caligine, a psych-folk project from Italy continuing the dronefolk theme, but in a slightly different manner. Starting with electric guitar feedback noise, the massive track turns into a beautiful and melodic acoustic guitar piece. Poly boxes with artwork by Anya Kuts. Limited to 75 copies." jozik

"In the cold plains of Shandong, Caligine compile a short diary about tape hiss and winter holidays: a found steel guitar slightly out of tune, twanging and rusty. The empty stones in the Kong Mansion, red leaves rustling. A radio chanting far away. The rain on the pier, westwards. On the other side, 余益裔 weaves together fragments of displaced field recordings, folk reverbs, subdued white noise and solitary bass, an aural cartography of a place dreamt by someone unknown." monstres par excès

the end springs

This gorgeous minimal psych folk wonder began in the mighty fine hands of the brilliant improvisational guitar extraordinare The End Springs, who created skeletal tracks and then sent them to some of his best friends/favorite musicians for collaboration; Siddhi, Beggin' Your Pardon Miss Joan, The Child of a Creek & A Man and A Guitar. the result couldn't be more satisfying or soul seducing. There is an obvious unspoken connection between The End Springs and the other artists, as their musical union sounds like they've been playing together for years.

The album is lead with a solo End Springs track, bells ring in the beginning of repetitive slide guitar bits, shakers and a mist of desert drone, all dangling on the edge of familiarity and abandon. Each collaborating artist molds their given tracks in solemn but shining shapes like stars and smiles from the sun, light captured at its most delicate, delicious. Soft layers of voices, hi-hat tumblings and bass enrich the repetitive and ramblin' guitar plucked with that lazy winter impression. Sparse yet engaging, all signs point inward, towards the heart of everything. Another masterpiece from the mellow mind of the End Springs, this album is sure to captivate and entrance all three of your eyes. (don't act like you don't know)." tired trails
